The Background



The RVCR Project requirements in terms of its Finance needs were addressed over the project course through various means which includes self-financing, Angel finding, Grants, Commercial deals and by Pool Sourcing. The Growth, funding and Revenues through the Last decade is covered below :

Growth over years


RVCR proposition is a “Greenfield Techno-commercial Project” based on new concept invention in ‘Prime-Mover Mechanism’ and the Project to develop and commercialize “RVCR Prime-Movers” like any conventional Prime-Mover is highly resource and time intensive. The sophistication of engineering tools, skill-sets and expertise makes it a high-End specialized services business.

The Prime-Mover Industry is a complex web of specialized industries with large multi-national OEM’s, (with business worth several times the IT giants) at top of the food chain. The shelf life of technologies/product stretch over decades and ‘Creative Technological Projects’ like RVCR are considered too far-fetched.

Creative projects like RVCR need convergence of stake Holders over a unified platform for facilitating it however it is unlikely unless a Pilot Product is demonstrated.

GYATK intend to reach the Pilot Product stage in its next Phase and leverage Global IP Rights of RVCR technological breakthrough (that delivers the highly desired VCR feature that has eluded the Industry despite pursued by global players for decades) to strategic partners for commercializing RVCR.

Finance


The initial kick-off time and during the starting years, the RVCR project was financed by the inventor from his personal account. and received initial Grants from DSIR’s TePP program of Govt of India and Angel Funding from KSIDC at kick-off stage. In 2006 GYATK gained contractual agreement from Industry and 2007 secured resource and financial commitment by partial dilution of IP Rights of its 1st Patent on RVCR, for its Design & Development project.

GYATK manoeuvred its R&D project through the economic slowdown, that started in 2008 and went on for a few following years, when most of the R&D projects faced severe resource crunch. Latter GYATK innovated a revenue generation model from D&D consultancy and Services to its licensee till 2015.

In 2016-17 GYATK established its base in UK for limitations in India to handle RVCR I.C. Engine Project and developed a network of contractual partners for supply chain needs of the next Phase of the Project and got success in gaining Phase 1 funding from SME Instrument of the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 scheme. Further GYATK initiated a project to design and develop a wind motor based on the RVCR configuration.

The Business Learnings


The project gained valuable insight and exposure to the limitations in domestic private industry and the government in India to handle creative projects like RVCR for its sheer technological sophistication which hampered RVCR Project Pace.

To deal with such lacking, GYATK build its strength and formulated methodologies as a counter strategy for dealing with these problems and are listed out below :

  • To Establish the appropriate intent of IPR licensing and evaluate the capability of the licensee to honour commitments.
  • To include checks and balances in the IPR Agreement to cover the limitations in the licensee’s business structure for ensuring deliverability of its obligations. (Please see Pilot Product Project Execution Services)
  • GYATK developed D&D Operations Management System as a tool to cover lack of Open Innovation structure within client’s business for facilitating joint innovation Projects.
  • D&D consultancy and servicers expertise and Administrative structure to cover for lack in engineering competencies of the Client. (The R&D competencies and admin structure within mass manufacturing OEM’s is generally restricted to its existing technological capabilities and not quipped for dealing with new creative technological Projects).
  • Pilot Prototype/Product Project planning and Management tools for efficient execution of the project which is very for tracking of the project pace and timely resource allocation through the project course.
  • GYATK has packaged its planning and management solutions, into a procedural method for assisting future clients in pre-licensing assessment of the entire business case and execution D&D Projects” at the.

The Technological Gains


GYATK has perfected the root algorithms of the various critical sub-systems of the Machine Mechanism and their interdependencies that define the functional integrity of the RVCR Mechanism as a Fluid Handling Machine. The validation of these subsystems was carried out by physical manufacture of component systems and establishing the RVCR assembly to test the RVCR configuration.

The functional integrity of the Prototype assembly and essential sub-systems is validated through physical simulation of the thermodynamic gas process like compression, expansion, Gas Exchange and Flow Throughput. The mass manufacturability and longevity of components mainly the seals which have been a major issue for rotary Wankel engine is solved.

The RVCR Development Process is at Technology Readiness Level of 6 (TRL-6) and defined as: - The Prototype is functional in Relevant environment.

RVCR Project now is on-course to undertake the Next Phase to develop Pilot Products, for Technology capability demonstration and validate RVCR product functionality and Benefits.

Technology (Know-How and Know-Why)

This part in 21 st century is completely in Digital for and is managed by GYATK over its Digital storage and cloud computing. The processing of this Data is carried out by service providers in 5 verticals of technology development:

“Integrated PLM, Documentation and Planning”; “Virtual Modelling”; “Virtual Analysis”; “Design and Standardisation” + “QC and Testing Data”; and “Manufacturing, Material Handling Data”.

The physical ‘Prototype and Product’ hardware

It is the sector and segment specific that evolves till it reaches a pilot product stage and is physical validation of the development process. This is managed at its strategic Partner’s Facility and the prototype of the 1 st generation Engine Project Prototype is at its Licensee’s Facility.


The strategy for next phase is to enhance the two fronts of business operations over a series of Milestones to assimilate the learning from the past and take progressive corrective action to achieve the goal of successfully Demonstrating Pilot Products.



Future Milestones

1. Enhancing Business Operations structure.

The next Phase of the project requires the Business operations structure to be enhanced to accommodate the needs of the Pilot product development Projects. The Technology Part (Know-How and Know-Why) operations capability requires more inhouse software tools and Dedicated Operations coordination centre.

  • The Software tools and services resource need has a Inhouse and an outsourced component. The inhouse part constitutes of the core technological operations and Project operations control and management. The Outsources part is for the Virtual Analysis operations. These capabilities will be developed gradually, one centre after another in Pune, India and next in UK. This is to cover the project operations in India and UK.
  • The Pilot Product Development Project manufacturing. Assembly, QC, Testing and Trial facility is addressed through our contractual Partners (at their facility) for both the Wind Motor Project in India and Engine Project in UK.


2. To Design and Develop Pilot RVCR Prime-Movers for 3 different Sectors.

  • RVCR Multi-Fuel I.C. Engine for transport Sector

    Considering the limitations in I.C. Engine Development capabilities and Lack of precedence and policy in handling ‘Greenfield Breakthrough Technology Projects’ in India, the project is shifted to UK and handled by KGYAT UK P Ltd. ‘KUPL’ (a subsidiary of GYATK).

    KUPL has setup its contractual relationship with UK based organizations in for the supply chain needs of the project and have successfully gained 1 st Phase of funding from SME instrument of the EU innovation funding scheme Horizon 2020 in 2016-17. KUPL is now preparing to apply for Phase II funding.

  • RVCR Wind Motor for Renewable Wind Energy Sector

    GYATK has conceived RVCR Wind Motor by adapting the RVCR technology algorithms to suit the lighter loads (by downgrading the stress intensity considerations of the RVCR components/ using lighter materials/ scaling up the internal volumes to accommodate large volumes of air at low Pressures, compared to I.C. Engine.) of wind motor compared to I.C. Engine Loads.
